Sulphur Springs knows how to have fun, and the city’s annual events reflect its community spirit and charm.

Each June kicks off with the Hopkins County Dairy Festival, one of the oldest festivals in East Texas. The celebration includes a lively parade, carnival, hot-air balloon rally, and the famous Texas State Champion Homemade Ice Cream Freeze-Off. This long-running event has even been featured on the Food Network’s All-American Festivals and draws visitors from across the state.

In October, thousands gather for the World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest. More than 150 teams cook chicken and beef stew in cast-iron pots over open fires, serving a tradition that’s now more than 50 years strong. It’s one of the most beloved community cook-offs in Texas and a must-attend for anyone visiting in the fall.

Aviation enthusiasts will enjoy the annual Fly-In at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport, where pilots showcase private, experimental, and vintage aircraft. It’s a favorite among families and photographers alike.

Other highlights include the Hopkins County Fall Festival each September, a Fourth of July celebration with live music and fireworks. Also in September is the John Chester Dutch-Oven Cookoff. Speaking of fun, Uncorked is a popular art, music, and wine tasting event in October.

Once fall and winter hit, Christmas in Heritage Park is where historic cabins glow with lights and carolers fill the air with music. From spring through fall, you can also browse local produce, crafts, and art at the Downtown Farm & Art Market held weekly around Celebration Plaza.

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or considering making Sulphur Springs home, these events capture the heart of Northeast Texas—friendly faces, small-town traditions, and plenty of reasons to celebrate all year long.
