Mark your calendars! The John Chester Dutch-Oven Cook-Off returns on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park (416 N. Jackson St., Sulphur Springs) as part of the annual Indian Summer Days festival.
What to Expect in 2025
Visitors can stroll through Heritage Park’s historic buildings while costumed interpreters demonstrate blacksmithing, butter churning, candle making, and other pioneer skills. Cast-iron pots will be filled with stews, breads, cobblers, and more, offering a true taste of frontier cooking. In 2024, guests enjoyed unlimited samples for just $5 plus $3 admission; final 2025 pricing will be announced soon.
Looking Back at 2024
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Cook-Off. Winners included Rachel Bobo & Nancy Phelan (1st Place), Melinda Hitt & Crew (2nd), and Margie Ford & Crew (3rd). Special category awards recognized standout meats, breads, vegetables, and desserts. Attendees praised the “magical” atmosphere and the volunteers who bring the event to life.
